Upon the acquisition of the Cycling Destination certification
mark, the island of Skiathos is officially part of the “Bike
Friendly” destinations network.

The “Bike Friendly” destinations network consists of a series
of select destinations which stand out for their dedication
to the protection of the environment and their efforts for
the sustainable development of tourism. “Bike Friendly”
projects are under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and
promote the use of bicycles as both a means of sustainable
development and the preferred mode of transport for visitors
and tourists. The Municipalities-members of the network have
to meet a minimum number of criteria and do their utmost
to make the cyclist/tourist’s stay as comfortable as possible.

At the same time, they establish a “cycling identity” of each
destination and make it easier for tourists and citizens alike to
use bicycles either while on holiday or as part of their day-today
life.
